The Early Days – Hip Hop in the GDR is a travelling exhibition which makes use of photos, film and music clips, memoirs and personal objects (certificates, trophies, clothing), State Security files, People’s Police reports and decisions of party and state organs concerned with hunting the young protagonists of hip hop culture in the GDR. It was conceived in the Department of History Didactics in the Faculty for History, Art and Oriental Studies at the University of Leipzig. The exhibition is financed by the Federal Foundation for the Study of the Communist Dictatorship in Eastern Germany as well as the US Consulate General Leipzig.
