The Institute of History of the Communist Party of Latvia was established in September 1945, with the aim of researching the history of the revolutionary struggle and the activities of the Latvian Communist Party. It was a branch of the Institute of the CPSU Institute of Marxism-Leninism. The Party archive was a structural part of the institute.
